Women in Science and Engineering
Saturday March 20th 10AM – 11AM
Sunday March 21st 10AM – 11AM
Welcome to Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) – University of Guelph Chapter! Our goal at WiSE is to encourage and empower individuals entering the STEM fields though community outreach, professional development, and hands-on skills workshops. Our events aim to deliver useful information and skills that benefit the students at UoG, as well as exposing the community to the fields of STEM. We welcome individuals from all genders to volunteer or participate in our events and we host bi-weekly meetings that will be run virtually this upcoming year. If you are interested in getting involved, follow us on social media or email us at [email protected]
Join us for our live chat to meet some our WiSE representatives and talk all things STEM related. We will be hosting two activities that you can easily do from home and will be available to help you through the activities.
You will need the hollowing materials ready:
Activity 1 (Science): Magic Blossoming Paper Flowers
- Markers (water-based, such as Crayola markers)
- Permanent marker
- Plate (either paper or ceramic work great!)
- The following PDF pages printed out: [link]
Following the instructions provided in the PDF pages, fold the paper flowers and color one side with markers and decorate the other side with a permanent marker! Fold your flower, place it in the plate of water, and watch it blossom!
Activity 2 (Engineering): Tower Construction
Build a tower as high as you can using only two materials! If you want, you can add a time constraint of 15 minutes to make things more interesting.
- Tin foil
- Tape Alternative suggested materials (try these out if you don’t have tin foil and tape):
We are super excited to meet you and would love to see photos of your awesome creations at [email protected]!
